That was the Man U away League cup match when we lost 1-0.. and Gary Bailey apparently touched it when it went in.

Cheers One Mac~

I must have been to both matches as I rarely missed a game when we were playing inthe NW or NE back then
but I can remember both incidents quite well, especially Pike's bullet header!

Hartson against Spurs when he absolutely demolished Sol Campbell at the back post and left him in a heap.

Re: Great headed goals
Trevor Morley scored a cracking header away at Pompey (just hung in the air and boom top corner), Ludo also made one of the best double goal line saves i've ever seen in that game as well.

They were different games. The Ward one was in the league cup earlier in the same season.

Re: Great headed goals
I think Geoff Pike's headed goal vs manu in the cup was probably the best headed goal I've seen

I would say my jaw dropped seeing the power & accuracy. What a rocket!

In the same match, I seem to vaguely remember Mark Ward "scoring" from a cracking free kick then having it chalked off when the ref insisted it was indirect (despite the ref signalling a direct free kick seconds earlier!)

That Ilan goal is one of my favourites. I think we'd gone behind about a minute before then went down their end and that happened! That was a good away day!

Remember Michael Owen scoring two late headers against Argentina, England won 3 - 2, some time in the noughties.

Remember Garth Crooks scoring bullet headers for Spurs, decades ago,
